Retired upstate police officer faces 23 child porn charges
JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. - A retired upstate police officer who served as a local Drug Abuse Resistance Education program officer is charged with 23 counts of child pornography possession.
Warren Maas of Johnston was arrested in January by state police. Two videos and 21 still images were found in his computer files. Authorities say all the children in the images were under 16.
The 55-year-old Maas retired from the Johnstown police department in 1998. While with the force, he worked closely with children to educate them about alcohol and drug abuse through the DARE program.
Maas is currently suspended from his job as a hospital security guard. He faces a maximum sentence of 1 & a-third to four years in prison if convicted.
