Calif. police officer indicted for assault
LOS ANGELES, May 29 (UPI) — A federal grand jury has indicted a Bell, Calif., police officer for violating the civil rights of a motorist, the U.S. Justice Department said Thursday.
The indictment handed down in Los Angeles alleged police officer Feliciano Sanchez sexually assaulted the motorist during a traffic stop, the department said in a release. Sanchez also was charged with using a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
If convicted, Sanchez could be sentenced up to life imprisonment and fined up to $250,000 on each count of the indictment, the department said.
