Robbie Knievel Makes Record-Breaking Jump At Kings Island

MASON — Evel Knievel’s son staged his own stunt at the place where his father set a record for jumping 14 buses
Robbie “Kaptain” Knievel jumped 24 delivery trucks Saturday night at Kings Island amusement park. He said the jump would be at least 220 feet, which would be a new world record.
Knievel said he’d be going 95 mph when he makes the jump, which began from a tall ramp at the north end of the run.
Kings Island already is in the history books for another Knievel stunt. More than half of the country’s turned-on TVs watched Evel Knievel jump 115 feet during his 1975 stunt here.
Knievel told the crowd that his jump was dedicated to the veterans of America’s wars, her currently serving soldiers and his father, who died last year.
Knievel then raced a bike back and forth in front of the crowd, drawing wild cheers as he put his bike in a wheelie from one end to the other of the run, before getting on his jump bike and doing some speed runs.
For the main run, Knievel jumped the truck, with explosions filling the air with flame behind him, before landing at the very top of the landing ramp.
“He took a really hard shot at the landing,” said Knievel’s business partner, Jeff Lowe. “But he’s thrilled. We’re all thrilled. He was a lot more nervous about this jump than he let on.”
“If you review your footage, you’ll see that the bike almost scraped the ramp, and when you do that so many times, it’s so tough on your back. And he’s paying the price now for many, many years of hitting that hard,” Lowe said.
Knievel’s mother was in attendance for the record-breaking event.
