State Representative Arrested For Third Time In Two Months

30 April, 2008 (13:08) | News, Politics

ROCHESTER, N.H. — A New Hampshire state representative has been arrested for the third time in two months.

Rep. Nancy Warren, D-Rochester, was arrested Friday and charged with stalking a neighbor and trespassing on his property, both violations of a bail order from a previous arrest.

Police said Warren left multiple messages on the phone of a man she is forbidden by court order to contact and then went on his property, which is across the street from her home.

“She went to a subject’s house in Rochester where she wasn’t supposed to be,” Lt. Paul Toussaint said.

Warren was charged with simple assault and other misdemeanor charges after an April 1 altercation with the same man. Police said she threw an alcoholic drink in his face.

She was arrested on March 9 and charged with class B felony burglary at the home of the same man. Police described the pattern of incidents as typical for a domestic dispute situation.

“We do see this sometimes in domestic violence situations,” Toussaint said. “We tend to see repeat offenders, and this appears to be a classic case of that.”

Warren serves on the House Commerce Committee. On Tuesday, Democratic Party leadership did not respond to a request for comment on the arrests.

Legislative observers said Warren would not be likely to face reprimand from her fellow representatives, but if her constituents were to complain, lawmakers could respond.

Warren was also charged with simple assault in connection with an incident involving her husband last year. That case is expected to go to trial in Rochester District Court next month.
