13-Year-Old Arrested In Death Of Niece
SALEM, Ore. — A 13-year-old accused of causing the death of her 16-month-old niece was arrested Monday night.
Relatives took the baby, Ruby Navarro-Carbajal, to Salem Hospital on Sunday. Police said Ruby wasn’t breathing and was later pronounced dead.
Police said the child died from “inflicted traumatic brain injury.” The results of an autopsy are still pending.
Ruby was staying with relatives at a Norman Avenue home in Salem on Saturday night, police said. Her grandfather and aunt were watching the child that night.
Detectives said Rosita Carbajal, 13, caused the child’s death, but they didn’t specify how the incident happened.
Police arrested Carbajal on a charge of murder. She was taken to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center.
Ruby’s mother was not home when the injury happened.
